After viewing the “Media Bias Lecture” video, find two online articles on a related news topic — one article from a left-leaning source and one from a right-leaning source, as depicted in one of the diagrams:
You may use the AllSides news page or TheWeek’s “Briefing” section to help identify a news story with those right and left sources. Try to find a story with distinct differences between the two sides, since it will give you more to write about!
After you have found the two articles, analyze them to identify any media bias the articles reveal. Even if they present the same facts, do the language and tone reveal differences in opinions?
Then, write a response of 200 or more words, where you analyze the following:
- Differences in article headlines
- The political bias of each article
- At least one specific quote where the language reveals a political bias
- Be sure to copy/paste both article URL links in your response
- Avoid explaining your agreement/disagreement with the articles for this assignment; there will be plenty of time for persuasive arguing in the upcoming units!
