Submit two or more paragraphs containing your tentative topic choices:
- List your academic major (or a major you find interesting if you are undeclared, in high school, etc.).
- Brainstorm a list of three to five debatable topics related to your academic major.
- Once you have brainstormed, and while you are still looking at your list, ask yourself a few questions about some of the topics (like, “Which topic would my readers find most interesting?” or “What are some diverse opinions on this topic?”).
- Write your favorite topic, from the list, that you are most likely to pursue.
- Then below that, write some reasons why you are interested in your favorite of the brainstormed topics.
- Do not be afraid to share your opinions; that is part of what this course is about.
- As the course progresses you will learn how to document and support those opinions, or you may have the opportunity to even change your opinion after learning more about your topic.
Once you have submitted this assignment, watch for a response with feedback to your topic suggestions.
