  • Diverse Exoplanetary Systems: Not all star systems look like ours! There are hot Jupiters (giant planets close to their stars) and super-Earths (rocky planets bigger than Earth).
  • Exomoons: Just as planets orbit stars, some exoplanets might have moons. These exomoons could also host life.
  • Future Exploration: New missions, like NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, aim to gather more details about exoplanetary atmospheres and conditions.

  • Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz: In 1995, these astronomers announced the first discovery of an exoplanet (51 Pegasi b) orbiting a main-sequence star. They were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2019 for this discovery.
